Bailey Channel Stainless Beaded Flexible – Typically GM
This Bailey channel stainless beaded flexible, is by far the best quality on the market! These are made in the USA. Most of us at some point have tried to bend the stainless edged flexible run channels and had the stainless either kink or pull away. That commonly occurs with the other brands on the market (Trust us, we know which ones to avoid).
This particular Bailey channel is constructed quite uniquely and exhibits two main differences. The first is the spine, the spine on these bailey channels are all separated. This allows the back edge to open up as you bend them and relieve strain on the front/stainless beaded edge. The second is that the stainless hasn’t been swaged on too tight. This one allows the stainless steel edge to slide along the length as you bend the bailey channel into shape. The stainless edge sliding is vital to a successful bend.
This profile is typically used in most GM production vehicles from the 1930’s through until the mid sixties when curved glass started being used. This includes all Holden, Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac etc. The beauty of this profile is many other manufacturers were utilising similar sizes in their production, so we’ve also used it for early Fords, LaSalle etc. It’s width is 16mm (5/8″) and the depth to the bottom of the stainless bead is 13mm (1/2″). It is designed to take up to 6mm thick glass comfortably.
Some original profiles would have had a fabric/cloth back on them, this is a direct replacement for those profiles. Those old fabric backed ones are still reproduced with the same dimensions, but the chance of them being bend successfully is very very slim. They use a different make up in the spine which makes them very prone to failing so these are an excellent option to use in their place.
