Bailey Channel Black fabric lined Flexible 2.4m
This Bailey Channel Black fabric lined Flexible 2.4m, is by far the best quality on the market! These are USA made ones. Most of us at some point have tried to bend cheaper bailey channels that are just poor quality. That commonly occurs with the other brands on the market that are supplied by the biggest parts companies in the world (Trust us, we know which ones to avoid).
This particular Bailey channel is constructed quite uniquely and exhibits two main differences. The first is the spine, the spine on these bailey channels are all separated. This allows the back edge to open up as you bend them and relieve strain on the front edge. The second is that it’s not simply a fabric that’s been wrapped over a core. The cloth/fabric edge is formed over it and becomes part of the rubber core. This one allows the whole profile to bend without it puckering and becoming loose which is vital to a successful bend.
This profile is typically used in most early Ford production vehicles from the 1930’s through until the mid sixties when curved glass started being used. This includes all Mercury’s, pickups etc. The beauty of this profile is many other manufacturers were utilising similar sizes in their production, so we’ve also used it for countless Model A’s, Fiberglass hot rods etc. We also regularly use these for one piece door window conversions on early Ford pickup trucks (up to 1966) and on 55-59 Chevrolet Apache pickups that have had vent delete windows put in.
It’s width is 15mm (5/8″) and the depth is 14mm (9/16″). It is designed to take up to 6mm thick glass comfortably.
Some original profiles would have had a fabric/cloth back on them, this is a direct replacement for those profiles. Those old fabric backed ones are still reproduced with the same dimensions, but the chance of them being bend successfully is very very slim. They use a different make up in the spine which makes them very prone to failing so these are an excellent option to use in their place.
